What is Blue Light?
The prolonged exposure to some elements of blue light (400nm – 450nm HEV high energy visible light ) are believed to be detrimental to vision health. While portions blue light can may cause a healthy effect on our eyes (enhances sight, increases visual acuity and contrast, increases perception of color, among other things) it is the possibility of negative effects that are the subject of concern. These concerns include:
- Overall eye fatigue
- Dry eyes
- Headaches
- Vision Discomfort
- Sleepiness
- Possible damage to the retina
- Possible contribution to the development of age-related macular degeneration (AMD)
Increased blue light exposure exists in almost every facet of modern life. The most common source of increased exposure is from:
- Televisions
- Computer Monitors
- Cell Phones / Mobile Devices
- LED lights / Compact Fluorescent lights
